Growin' Like a Spring Chicken!

The babies are probably about 8 weeks old now. From what we've read, we can expect eggs anytime after 20-25 weeks. These little guys have quadrupled in size! And, I am feeling much more attached now that they are living in the coop and not in the dog room. (Shew!) We still don't know now many will be hens and how many are roosters (ie lunch or dinner), but regardless, ALL 25 have survived so far! Thanks Santa!
We have noticed this little peeper seems to favor the TOP roost...the one with the window. (Will read somewhere that chickens prefer to have a window to gaze out while roosting. I think he must have missed the small print at the bottom of that page that said, "S-U-C-K-E-R!"

Newest Family member - MAJOR!

Major is an 18 month old yellow lab who recently moved from Ft. Hood to live with us in East Texas. He took about 2.5 seconds to adjust to farm life and can be seen riding shotgun with Will most days to and from work. He's quite the construction dog staying loyally by Will's side at all times. Deets is so happy to have a friend to play with, but still enjoys staying home and guarding (sleeping) the farm while we are all away. What fun puppies we have been blessed with! And, so far, they seem to hardly notice the 25 small chirping intruders that have taken up residence on the dog porch until they are big enough to live outside.

Who says Christmas doesn't come "CHEEP!"

Santa preempted the completion of the new chicken coupe - more like a chicken chalet according to friends - and delivered 25 baby chicks on Christmas morning. The kids were geared up for Easter chicks, but I guess the big guy had something else in mind! Fresh eggs by summer maybe???
